Job Summary:
The School Psychologist plays a vital role in providing comprehensive psychological services to students in a school setting. The primary responsibilities of this position include conducting psychological assessments, collaborating with teachers and parents, providing counseling and intervention services, and supporting students' academic, social, and emotional development. The School Psychologist is expected to possess strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills to effectively address the diverse needs of students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conduct psychological assessments to evaluate students' intellectual, academic, emotional, and behavioral functioning.
2. Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and intervention strategies for students with special needs.
3. Provide counseling services to students, addressing various issues such as academic challenges, social-emotional difficulties, and behavior management.
4. Implement evidence-based interventions and behavioral strategies to support students' positive outcomes and success in the school environment.
5. Assist in the identification and prevention of learning and behavioral difficulties through early intervention and regular monitoring.
6. Conduct research to identify and apply best practices in the field of school psychology.
7. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to the development of school-wide strategies and programs.
8. Collaborate with teachers and support staff to create a positive and inclusive school climate that fosters students' well-being and academic achievement.
9. Provide crisis intervention services as needed in response to emergencies or critical incidents.
10. Maintain accurate and confidential records, including assessment reports, progress notes, and intervention plans.
11. Stay up-to-date with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards pertaining to the field of school psychology.
Qualifications:
1. Master's or doctoral degree in School Psychology or a related field.
2. State licensure or certification as a School Psychologist.
3. Proven experience working as a School Psychologist in an educational setting.
4. Strong knowledge of psychological assessment tools and techniques.
5. Familiarity with special education laws, regulations, and IEP processes.
6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
7. Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, teachers, and other professionals.
8. Knowledge of evidence-based interventions and counseling techniques.
9. Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
10. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
11. Proficiency in using technology and relevant software applications.
